Choroidal folds in association with papilloedema.

چکیده
Chorioretinal folds (striae) in the posterior fundus were reported by Birch-Hirschfeld and Siegfried (I915) in a patient with an orbital tumour, and similar cases have been reported by other authors (Lohlein, I927; Wolter and Jampel, I957; Hedges and Leopold, I959; Wolter, I962). The folds were attributed to indentation of the globe by the orbital tumour, although similar findings may be seen with elevated orbital pressure as in thyroid ophthalmopathy (Rosen, I969) or orbital pseudotumour (personal observation). Recently there have been two reports (Norton, I969; Hyvarinen and Walsh, 1970) describing choroidal folds in patients without evidence of an orbital lesion and it was suggested that the folds had been produced by scleral contraction. The first description of choroidal striae was that of Nettleship (I884) in a patient attending the National Hospital with papilloedema. He described parallel horizontal lines in the choroid, which were broad on the temporal side but finer and shorter on the nasal side of the disc. The patient had a left-sided space-occupying lesion with gross papilloedema progressing to atrophy and the striae were attributed to choroidal scarring following the resolution of oedema. The present paper describes eight similar cases seen at the National Hospital which have been studied by fluorescein angiography.

Choroidal folds and papilloedema.
AIMS To assess the clinical and fluorescein angiographic features of choroidal folds seen in association with papilloedema. METHODS In a retrospective study, the clinical data from a database on patients with choroidal folds (1963-97), including fundus photography and fluorescein angiography, from 32 patients (64 eyes) with choroidal folds in association with papilloedema were reviewed. The c...
متن کاملMacular changes resulting from papilloedema.
Six cases are presented with macular changes in association with papilloedema; 4 suffered permanent visual loss. The present paper emphasises this previously infrequent finding and discusses the haemodynamic and mechanical factors responsible. The macular changes consisted of haemorrhages situated in front, within, or behind the retina, and occasionally the results of neovascular membrane forma...
متن کاملBilateral Choroidal Folds in a Diabetic Patient
Abstract In this presentation, a case of bilateral choroidal folds in patient with diabetic retinopathy was reported. By our knowledge, this case presentation is the first report of choroidal folds in diabetic retinopathy, which bilateral symmetric and horizontal folds arranged in macula. The thick choroid that is developed in diabetics may be a cause of these folds but the source of differenc...
متن کاملChoroidal Folds in Acute-Stage Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada Disease Patients with Relatively Short Axial Length
PURPOSE To report 2 cases of Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada disease accompanied by remarkable choroidal folds in the acute stage. The early indicator of recurrence in these 2 cases was the identification of choroidal folds by spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT). CASE REPORTS A 68-year-old woman (Case 1) presented with visual loss in both eyes. Funduscopic examination revealed optic di...
متن کاملRetinal and Choroidal Folds in Papilledema.
PURPOSE To determine the frequency, patterns, associations, and biomechanical implications of retinal and choroidal folds in papilledema due to idiopathic intracranial hypertension (IIH). METHODS Retinal and choroidal folds were studied in patients enrolled in the IIH Treatment Trial using fundus photography (n = 165 study eyes) and spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT; n = 12...
